Paseos Matemáticos por Granada Description

Did you know that in the historical-cultural heritage of Granada lies a whole mathematical approach? Discover the science of art or the art of science with these exclusive routes.

Mathematical Walks in Granada is a project based on the book of the same name 'Paseos Matemáticos por Granada' published by the University of Granada in 2017, and coordinated by Professor Álvaro Martínez Sevilla. This project coordinated by the Discover Foundation, is co-funded by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, and the Ministry of Economy, Knowledge, Business and University of the Junta de Andalucía, which aims to bring science to citizens from an innovative approach linking art, mathematics, technology and tourism.

We propose to walk in a virtual and / or face-to-face way, through the monumental center of Granada and enjoy a different vision of its heritage, integrating, with the help of technological tools, science, art and history. In this tour, technologies such as the GeoGebra program are used to draw mathematical layers on images of buildings, augmented reality for a precise superposition of the mathematical object on the monument, or 3D printing for the modeling of some spatial pieces.

The Mathematical Walks in Granada are routes in which the visitor can learn about the history of some of the most emblematic monuments of the historic center of the city from the mathematical perspective. It includes the buildings of the Corral del Carbón, the Casa de los Tiros, the Granada Cathedral, the Royal Chapel and the Trade Market, the Cadí Bridge, El Bañuelo and the Instante precise, sculpture of the Granada City Hall building.

A new way of looking at our monumental heritage. Introducing us through history and art, we examine each monument to discover constructive patterns, decorative patterns and symbolism in keeping with the era in which they were erected.
